Kidepo Valley National Park

Kidepo Valley National Park is a large national park in North Eastern Uganda, 520 km (320 mi) from Kampala, Uganda’s capital city. It takes approximately 8 hours to drive there from Kampala. It is 1,442 km2 of mostly rugged savannah, dominated by the 2,750 metres Mount Morungole and transected by the Kidepo and Narus rivers, creating two distinct valleys. Most of the park is open tree savannah, but because of differences in rainfall between the Narus valley and the Kidepo valley, vegetation and animal populations vary greatly between the two.

Game Drives: Kidepo Valley National Park is truly a land of unspoiled beauty, making it the perfect place for seeing a variety of wildlife. Lions, cheetah, ostrich elephants, giraffes, zebra as well as many antelope species inhabit these grasslands.

Karamojong Village: The Karamojong people have been settled in Northern Uganda since 1600 A.D. Originally from Ethiopia, the name Karamojong is derived from a phrase meaning ‘the old men can walk no further’. The main livelihood for the Karamojong is cattle herding and livestock have a significant importance in the day to day lives of a Karamojong community. Apoka Lodge has established a good relationship with a nearby Karamojong community and offer the opportunity to visit the village and learn about the history of this interesting community and its culture and traditions.
